St. Patrick's Day

Decorative Cup With Wheat Grass

This March, I recommend growing wheatgrass for St. Patrick's day or to celebrate the arrival of spring. Just a handful of wheat berries can create a thick and lush display of grass. The picture above was taken one week after the wheat berries were planted.

  • Decorative cups
  • Hard winter wheat berries (can be found in health food stores)
  • Potting soil
  • Large bowl
  • Watering Can
  • Trowel

   1.  Fill the decorative cups with potting soil, 3/4 full.

   2.  Grab a handful of wheat berries and put on top of the potting soil.

   3.  Cover the wheat berries with 1/2 inch of potting soil.

   5.  Water the wheat berries by trickling water on top. A slow and light pour will not disturb the potting soil on top of the seeds and will prevent the wheat berries from moving.

   6.  Place the cups near a bright window. The more light the faster the wheat grass will grow.
