Removing Suckers From A Magnolia Tree

In the backyard is a lovely magnolia tree that is starting to look more like a bush. Around the base of the trunk are many long vertical shoots called suckers or watersprouts. These poor suckers have to go in order to maintain the shape of the tree. Summer pruning at the end of July and into August is a good time to remove them. Take a look at the trees in your yard and see if they have any suckers. This is a easy project that can quickly tidy up the yard.

Happy Growing,
